TEFA with an IEP (up to $30,000)

A student whose current IEP is on file with the Texas Education Agency receives the $10,474 base plus an add-on tied to the home district and the IEP setting, up to $30,000 at a participating school.

Two things set the add-on: where the child lives and the instructional setting code written into the IEP. The Comptroller's 2026-27 table converts each district's special-education formula into a dollar figure for every code.

In Fort Worth ISD, a student served mainly in general-education classes (code 40) totals $16,794 this year. Arlington ISD comes to $16,805, Keller ISD to $17,114 and Mansfield ISD to $17,068. A resource or self-contained setting (codes 41-44) lands between about $15,700 and $16,000 in those four districts.

Rural districts in the outer counties carry larger add-ons because the state formula favors small districts. A mainstream IEP is worth $19,282 for a Keene ISD resident in Johnson County, $20,450 in Chico ISD in Wise County and $19,713 in Tolar ISD in Hood County.

Only an IEP that TEA already has counts. A private evaluation or a 504 plan won't raise the amount, so families should request a district evaluation well before the next window. A homeschooled child with an IEP still receives the $2,000 homeschool amount.

Totals are the $10,474 base plus the district add-on from the Comptroller's 2026-27 Special Education Funding Table, capped at $30,000. Funded counts come from the TEFA Annual Demographic Report (data as of July 29, 2026); districts with fewer than 30 participants aren't listed in that report. All Fort Worth-area districts →
