Fort Worth schools for learning differences, and what an IEP adds

Fort Worth has several schools built for students who learn differently, and TEFA can pay far more than $10,474 when a child has an IEP. Here's how the two connect.

Schools founded for learning differences

The Key School in east Fort Worth has taught students with dyslexia and other learning differences since 1966. Hill School of Fort Worth describes itself as a college-prep school for students with learning differences, and The Novus Academy in Southlake has served K-12 students with learning differences since 2014. All three were in the finder.

The Jane Justin School

Part of Cook Children's Child Study Center near downtown, the Jane Justin School serves students with developmental and learning disabilities and related behavior disorders. It was in the TEFA finder when we checked.

More options

Lighthouse School of Fort Worth reported speech and occupational therapy to the finder, School of Lexia in Mansfield focuses on reading, and Accommodated Learning Academy is in Grapevine.

What an IEP adds here

For a mainstream setting, a Fort Worth ISD student totals $16,794 for 2026-27 and a Keller ISD student $17,114. Resource or self-contained settings run a little lower in the big districts, and residential codes exceed $25,000.

Therapy without changing schools

Speech, occupational and behavioral therapy and dyslexia intervention can be paid from the account at an approved provider when insurance or Medicaid doesn't cover them. Our special-needs pages list the approved providers based in the five counties.

The IEP has to be on file

TEA must already have an IEP from 2023-24 or later. If your child has only a private diagnosis, ask your district for an evaluation now so it's done before the next window.
